HRT CONSIDERATIONS
If you are taking HRT it is suggested, you speak to our pharmacist or GP to discuss possible changes to your regime whilst on weight loss injections.
CONTRACEPTIONS CONSIDERATIONS
Please also be aware, that all women on weight loss injections should also be on contraception. It should also be noted those on the injections should switch to a non- oral method, or add a barrier method, for four weeks after initiation and four weeks after each dose increase.
OTHER POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS AND WARNING
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) is a possible side effect with GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GLP-1/ GIP receptor agonists. In rare reports this can have serious or fatal outcomes
Seek urgent medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain, that may radiate to your back and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, as this may be a sign of pancreatitis
Do not restart GLP-1 receptor agonist or GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist treatment if pancreatitis is confirmed
SURGICAL CONSIDERATIONS TO INFORM PROFESSIONALS ABOUT
If you are taking a GLP-1 or dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist, make sure you inform your healthcare team including the anaesthetist about this prior to your surgical procedure
This medicine slows the emptying of your stomach, increasing the risk that stomach contents (e.g. food and drink) could enter into your airways and lungs during surgery or procedures whilst you are under general anaesthesia or deep sedation. This means that a modification to the pre-procedure instruction and anaesthetic technique may be required
Take your prescribed medicine(s) as usual and do not stop your treatment without first discussing this with your doctor
