Carers need to be informed about their entitlement under the Carers Act 1995 to have a Carers Assessment from Social Services. This assessment looks at what the carer needs and is a separate assessment from the assessment of the person being cared for. It should identify services that can help such as respite services – day care and residential, benefits advice, advice from occupational therapists, information about local support groups for emotional and social support
